Zelensky commented on the appointment: “Olha is a well-known, experienced, and effective Ukrainian human rights activist. She has already done much to build our state institutions and support Ukrainians. The main task now is to prepare a draft law on the military ombudsman and all the necessary systemic foundations for the work of this institution together with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and civil society. Our soldiers must be given effective tools to protect their rights, and there must be a real modernization of human resources management in the Ukrainian Defense Forces. I am grateful to everyone who helps in this.”

Reshetylova currently heads the Media Initiative for Human Rights, which has consistently promoted the idea of creating a military ombudsman for several years.

We remind you that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine would soon have a military ombudsman during his evening address to Ukrainians on December 29, 2024 (day before the appointment).
