Two years in the hell of captivity: families of the marines — defenders of Mariupol ask to get the soldiers out of captivity

On Saturday, April 13, relatives of marines, medics, and all those who have been defending Mariupol for 86 days gathered on Independence Square in Kyiv. Wives, mothers, and children came to a peaceful rally in the center of the capital to remind them that more than 1,500 Mariupol defenders had been in captivity for two years.

Olha Reshetylova, the Head of the Media Initiative for Human Rights, took part in one of the discussion panels at a conference of the Norwegian Helsinki Committee held in Oslo. Kherson — Lefortovo — Rostov: The Trial of Kherson Residents Held by Russia for ‘Terrorism’ Has Begun

Serhii Ofitserov, Yurii Kaiov, Serhii Kovalskyi, Kostiantyn Reznik, Serhii Kabakov, Denys Lialka, Serhii Heidt, Oleh Bohdanov, and Yurii Tavozhnianskyi are Kherson civilians abducted by the Russians in the summer of 2022. They are accused of ‘preparing and committing an act of international terrorism.’ Since February 20, 2023, the nine Kherson residents have been held in Detention Center No. 1 in Rostov and are being illegally tried.

Oleksiy Shevchenko is a combat medic. On 4 April 2022, while in Mariupol at the Illich Plant, he was taken prisoner of war. MIHR spoke with his sister Kateryna, who is fighting for her brother’s release. She says that Oleksiy suffers from asthma but is not receiving proper medical care while in captivity.
